First campaign checklist

Official launch tips, translated into a turn-by-turn opening.

  1. 1

    Choose a mode on purpose

New players should open Classic or Kingdom, not Retro. Compare all three in the Modes Hub before the first campaign clock starts.

  2. 2

    Start as Wilfred of Ivanhoe

Black Tower Basement recommends Wilfred for a balanced start. Read the Wilfred guide then sample the other Saxon lords.

  3. 3

    Plan the first siege

Do not assault a castle without catapults. The siege tutorial covers Retro, Classic, and Kingdom weakening tricks.

  4. 4

    Spend the Saxon peace window

Allied travel ends when the first Norman castle falls. The campaign walkthrough maps that turning point.

  5. 5

    Learn the minigames once

Jousts, raids, and catapult force decide more campaigns than raw troop counts. Use the how to play overview, then drill each event.

Questions

Wiki FAQ

Quick answers drawn from official notes and launch play.

Is this an official wiki?

No. This is an unofficial fan resource. Confirm patches, store listings, and support through Nordcurrent and the Steam, GOG, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo pages collected on Links.

Which languages are supported?

This wiki supports: English, Français, Deutsch, Español. Configure locales in site.meta.json and run npm run generate:i18n.

Which mode should I play first?

If you never played the Amiga original, start in Classic Mode or Kingdom Mode. Retro is the faithful 1986 campaign and still hides why you lost a duel or joust.

Is Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns single-player?

Yes. The package is a single-player strategy adventure across Retro, Classic, and Kingdom. There is no online campaign in the launch build.

Where can I read a launch verdict?

See our review for Steam reception, the three-mode structure, and who the game is actually for two days after launch.
