Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns is not a 200 GB showcase. Steam’s install size is 1 GB. The tax is RAM and a GPU old enough to remember Windows 8. This page reprints the store requirements, then adds what launch coverage said about handhelds. Always re-check the Steam page if a patch lands; this wiki is not the store.

Windows minimum

Both columns insist on 64-bit Windows. There is no macOS or Steam Linux store tick. Worthplaying still reported a good experience on Linux and Deck in a review environment, which is not the same as an official Proton badge. If you are on a Mac, you are looking at cloud, a different store, or a different machine.

What those numbers mean in practice

The minimum GPU is a 2012-era card. Classic’s painterly map and Kingdom’s effects are not Cyberpunk. If the game stutters, look at background overlays and Deck TDP before you buy a new PC for a catapult. 8 GB of RAM is the real floor — do not run a browser zoo next to a campaign and then blame 1149.

Console editions exist for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S at the same 19.99 list price (launch intro 16.99 on Steam until 27 August 2026). Those SKUs do not use this CPU table. They use the hardware you already bought.

Steam Deck

Official FAQ: supported at launch, Verified not guaranteed. Reviews: readable text, no obvious smear, solid frame pace, battery around three hours on an older LCD Deck. That is a full Classic evening or two Kingdom runs, not a transatlantic flight. See controls for bind notes. Play in docked mode if the joust stick feels tiny.

Platforms this wiki will not invent

No mobile port is listed on the Steam page. No online campaign is listed either. The package is single-player with Steam Cloud and 47 achievements. If a friend is trying to share a screen for two lords, they are playing a different genre. Point them at the review and the mode advisor instead of a phantom couch mode.

Keep drivers current, keep the 1 GB free, and spend the money you saved on not buying a new GPU on catapults. The recommended card is still a GTX 950. That is the joke, and it is also the gift of a cinematic strategy game that never needed ray tracing to sell an England.

Last check before you buy a new GPU for a catapult game: close overlays, set Deck TDP sanely, and confirm the store still says 1 GB. If a friend is on a 2012 laptop that meets the GTX 650 line, they can play. If they are on a phone, they cannot. If they are on a Mac, point them at a console SKU or a different computer. Then spend the remaining budget on learning How to Siege instead of on hardware theatre. The recommended card is still a GTX 950. That should tell you where the money belongs.
